Gardening connects you with nature: colorful flowers, buzzing bees, butterflies and a living soil teeming with life. But true enjoyment is only possible when nature outside our garden is not harmed – no matter how good our intentions are, gardening with peat and harmful materials can cause a lot of damage without us even realizing it.
Many potting soils contain peat. Peat extraction permanently drains valuable peatlands—rich in biodiversity and important for CO₂ retention. This doesn't have to be the case.
Peat-free gardening is a simple, sustainable, and regenerative alternative. Plants thrive in peat-free soil, often even better. Anyone can create a thriving garden, healthy vegetable patch, or green facade without harming nature or the climate.
Stichting Turfvrij invites everyone to embark on this green path. Gardening together with respect for the earth, so we can continue to enjoy it – now and in the future.
